Smithsonian Secretary’s Youth Advisory Council

On February 6th The Smithsonian Science Education Center hosted the Smithsonian Secretary’s Youth Advisory Council (SSYAC). Secretary Skorton established the SSYAC to provide an organized youth perspective regarding various issues to the Smithsonian Secretary and his leadership. For 2018-2019, the program is comprised of 10 area teens and 11 national teens associated with five Affiliates. Secretary Skorton and the group participated in Smithsonian Science Education Center’s Smithsonian Science for the Classroom activity on “Water: How can we provide freshwater to those in need?”.

She is responsible for handling recruitment, internships, performance management, and all aspects of human resources at the Center. She was previously the Executive Office Manager at SSEC for 10 years. Prior to SSEC, Kate was in human resource management having worked for an international hotel chain, the U.S. Government, and a science non-profit.
